Rs 200 Subsidy to Benefit Over 9.6 Crore Women
The Rs 200 subsidy will benefit over 9.6 crore women who are beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The scheme was launched in 2016 to provide free LPG connections to poor women in rural and urban areas. So far, over 9.6 crore LPG connections have been provided under the scheme.
Government Announces Rs 200 Subsidy on LPG Cylinders Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme
The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 200 per LPG cylinder subsidy for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This means that the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder, which currently costs Rs 1420, will be reduced to Rs 1220 for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries for the next three months, starting from September 2023.
The PMUY is a government scheme that provides free LPG connections to poor women in rural and urban areas. So far, over 9.6 crore LPG connections have been provided under the scheme.
Subsidy to Come into Effect from September 2023
The Rs 200 subsidy will come into effect from September 2023. This means that the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs 200 for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries from September onwards.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival that is celebrated in India to mark the bond between brothers and sisters. This year, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 31.
The government has said that the move is aimed at helping poor women and reducing the burden on their household budgets. The subsidy will be applicable for the next three months, starting from September 2023.
